Colchester Racing Developments Ltd. built up their own machine shop as a result of the difficulty obtaining quality machined components for the manufacture of their racing cars. Having suffered from sub-contractors who were unable to supply good quality parts on time the decision was made to manufacture the components in house. In order to keep the machine shop busy during the slack season sub contract work was obtained from other companies. Eventually CRD Tool and Engineering Ltd. was formed to deal solely with the machining and fabrication of customers' components.

CRD Tool and Engineering Ltd. have a skilled and experienced staff and a full range of machine tools including CNC.

Over forty years trading has resulted in locating reliable suppliers of materials and reliable sub-contractors for processes such as heat treatment and electro-plating.

In addition to making components for production machinery, tooling and gauges, CRD has made parts for a wide variety of customers including engine manufacturers and crane makers, and have manufactured parts for many historic racing and road cars where parts are no longer available from the original manufacturer.
