EAST ANGLIAN
COMMUNITY PROJECTS

East Anglian Community Projects (EACP) was set up in March 2004 with the objective of recording in writing, visual and audio, local heritage topics with the intention of promoting other projects that will be of benefit to the community.

The group started following the success of Manningtree Festival of Arts in 2003 when a number of local people, of varying talents, got together to discuss the possibility of making a series of records of local important heritage matters. It was agreed to start with the very well known story of Madge Malt, the nun who escaped from a convent in East Bergholt on 15 February 1909.

A small charity group was formed and East Anglian Community Projects was created, the name to reflect the objectives of the group.

The group was fortunate to be granted up to £11,160 by the Local Heritage Initiative which is a partnership between the Heritage Lottery Fund, Nationwide Building Society and the Countryside Agency. For those who are interested in applying for a Local Heritage Initiative call the local adviser of the Countryside Agency on 01223 273592.

Filming started at Christchurch Museum Ipswich on 26 September. All the participants are volunteers from within a 10 mile radius of Manningtree who are professionally assisted by John Worland Video/Fade To Black Television, Primrose Cottage, Newbridge Hill, West Bergholt, Colchester, CO6 3ES, telephone 01206 241820.

To date other filming locations have been Old Hall, East Bergholt - originally St Mary's Abbey Convent that Madge escaped from - Harwich Police Station and St Michaels Church Hall, Mistley.
